Hutton Lodge Pottery

Hutton Lodge Pottery is tucked away in the village of Soulby in the beautiful Upper Eden Valley. You are welcome to visit, but if making a special journey, it is wise to ‘phone to make sure we’re here.

As well as the extensive range of domestic pottery, Bob March is happy to design and produce commemorative items such as named mugs or wedding plates. He has also made a number of house name plaques. Please contact to discuss your requirements.

The Potter & the Pots

Bob March has been potting full time since 1994. He produces a large variety of attractive hand decorated domestic ware which he sells from his studio and at shows, farmers’ markets etc.

Bob particularly enjoys making pots for people to use and produces everything from eggcups to bread crocks. All items are hand thrown using a cream stoneware clay. When dry they are decorated by applying coloured slip with Chinese brushes. They are then biscuit fired in an electric kiln and after dipping in a clear glaze everything is fired once more at 1260 degrees C. The resulting blue/cream, green/cream pots are oven/dishwasher proof and microwave safe.

The combination of stoneware clay and the final high firing produces tough, practical pots which are not easily broken or chipped. The underglaze decoration ensures that the colours do not fade. The ware is ideal for everyday use and is oven and dishwasher proof.
